"You Can't See Me"

Week 3 of Just Jesus

“Jesus left that place and came to his hometown. His disciples followed him. On the Sabbath, he began to teach in the synagogue. Many who heard him were surprised. “Where did this man get all this? What’s this wisdom he’s been given? What about the powerful acts accomplished through him? Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t he Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” They were repulsed by him and fell into sin. Jesus said to them, “Prophets are honored everywhere except in their own hometowns, among their relatives, and in their own households.” He was unable to do any miracles there, except that he placed his hands on a few sick people and healed them. He was appalled by their disbelief. Then Jesus traveled through the surrounding villages teaching.” Mark‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭CEB

You can’t let what others see in you affect how you see yourself. 

They can’t see you when they’re focused on what you don’t have.

They can’t see you because they’re too familiar with you.

“Later that day, when evening came, Jesus said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” They left the crowd and took him in the boat just as he was. Other boats followed along. Gale-force winds arose, and waves crashed against the boat so that the boat was swamped. But Jesus was in the rear of the boat, sleeping on a pillow. They woke him up and said, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re drowning?” He got up and gave orders to the wind, and he said to the lake, “Silence! Be still!” The wind settled down and there was a great calm. Jesus asked them, “Why are you frightened? Don’t you have faith yet?” Overcome with awe, they said to each other, “Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey him!” Mark‬ ‭4‬:‭35‬-‭41‬ ‭CEB‬‬

Tear The Roof Off

“After a few days, Jesus went back to Capernaum, and people heard that he was at home. So many gathered that there was no longer space, not even near the door. Jesus was speaking the word to them. Some people arrived, and four of them were bringing to him a man who was paralyzed. They couldn’t carry him through the crowd, so they tore off part of the roof above where Jesus was. When they had made an opening, they lowered the mat on which the paralyzed man was lying. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Child, your sins are forgiven!” - Mark‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭CEB‬‬

“Jesus raised him up, and right away he picked up his mat and walked out in front of everybody. They were all amazed and praised God, saying, “We’ve never seen anything like this!” ‭‭- Mark‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬ ‭CEB‬‬

I Got Big Buts and I Cannot Lie

“Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’ “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’ “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’ ‭‭Luke‬ ‭14‬:‭16‬-‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

You’re missing “but God moments” because of your big buts. 

Feed The Fire

It’s the small things that create the conditions for big growth. 

The Gift of Love

Does your enthusiasm for the future match your effort in the present?

Ignore The Noise

And I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down..." - Nehemiah 6:3 ESV

They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination. - Nehemiah 6:9 NLT

Prioritize The Presence

“One day Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Take these people up to the Promised Land.’ But you haven’t told me whom you will send with me. You have told me, ‘I know you by name, and I look favorably on you.’ If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. And remember that this nation is your very own people.” The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.” Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place.”‭‭ - Exodus‬ ‭33‬:‭12‬-‭15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

 

Power happens in your life when you prioritize God’s presence.
